UP Wide Preventing Suicide – Walk Run Bike Event

Hello,

Our Communities That Care coalition is participating in “UP Wide Preventing Suicide,” a collaborative walk/run/bike event that includes all 15 counties of the Upper Peninsula, to be held the last weekend in September. We are seeking businesses and organizations to sponsor this event, with funds to be used on future prevention efforts in the UP. Sponsors will have their name on the official event t-shirts, and on social media and our event web page.

Here are just a few reasons why suicide prevention is such an important topic:

• Suicide is the #2 leading cause of death for people ages 10 to 34 in the United States*
• In the State of Michigan, five of the top 10 counties for death by suicide are in the UP*
• 5% to 68.5% of local youth report feeling depressed or sad most days**

There are three outcomes we anticipate as a result of this event:

• Increased awareness of suicide risk factors and resources for help
• Raising funds for future suicide prevention initiatives
• More people joining their local CTC coalition to continue the work of suicide prevention and creating healthier, safer communities for youth
